About the Institute

Applied Geology is the application of various field of geology to economic, engineering, water-supply, or environmental problems (Jackson, 1997). It includes engineering geology, hydrogeology, economic geology, and environmental geology. In recent years, natural hazard and environmental issues come to the fore, mitigation of geo-hazards (earthquake, landslide, or debris flow), investigation and remediation of soil and groundwater contamination, the exploration of natural resources (geothermal energy, hot spring, groundwater, and fossil fuels), and some sustainable development actions (Co2 sequestration, geological disposal of spent nuclear fuels, and enhanced geothermal system), become hot topics and focus of our research.
